Below are some expanded ideas and instructions for creating memorable gifts in a jar!

Cookie Mix in a Jar:

One of the most popular gifts in a jar is the cookie mix. It's simple to make, and it gives the recipient the ingredients to bake a batch of delicious cookies with minimal effort. The beauty of this gift is that it’s fully customizable—use your favorite cookie recipes and arrange the dry ingredients in a fun, layered pattern.

How-to:

  • Supplies: A mason jar, dry ingredients for cookies (flour, sugar, baking soda, chocolate chips, etc.), ribbon, and a gift tag.
  • Instructions:
      1. Select a cookie recipe that the recipient will love (chocolate chip, snickerdoodle, oatmeal raisin, etc.).
      2. Layer the dry ingredients in the jar. Start with the dry ingredients that will be closest to the jar (flour or sugar), then layer others like chocolate chips, oats, or nuts.
      3. After the jar is filled, add a ribbon and tag that includes a note with instructions, such as: "Add 1 egg and 1/2 cup butter. Bake at 350°F for 10-12 minutes."
      4. You can also include a personalized touch, such as a holiday-themed tag or a little cookie

DIY Hot Chocolate Mix

Hot chocolate mix in a jar is a delightful and cozy gift for the cold winter months. It’s easy to make, and you can customize it with different flavors and toppings to make it extra special. Whether you add peppermint, caramel, or marshmallows, it’s a thoughtful gift that will warm hearts.

How-to:

  • Supplies: Cocoa powder, powdered sugar, powdered milk, chocolate chips (optional), mini marshmallows, and peppermint sticks.
  • Instructions:
      1. Layer the dry ingredients in a mason jar, starting with cocoa powder, followed by powdered sugar, powdered milk, and chocolate chips.
      2. Add a handful of mini marshmallows on top.
      3. Close the jar tightly and attach a festive ribbon or twine.
      4. Include a tag with instructions: “Mix 2-3 tablespoons of mix with hot milk or water. Enjoy!”

Tip: Add a few drops of peppermint extract to the mix or include flavored syrups as an additional gift. You can also add a little note suggesting they use the mix for a DIY s’mores experience!
